It was this conviction that led Murlidhar Ratanlal Exports Ltd (MREL) to enter the world of Jute, the golden fibre in 1981.

Three decades ago MREL started its demonstrable track record with its first manufacturing operation - a specialty Bag Stitching Factory at Ghushuri, Howrah. Since then, the endeavour has been to set higher standards of excellence in Jute. The Group today is geared to set benchmarks in product quality, manufacturing processes, management systems and customer services.  

Over time, the MREL network has grown and abilities have been proven in tough international markets. In 1994, the Group acquired Hastings Jute Mill at Rishra, which is one of the oldest mills in India on the banks of the Hooghly about 35 km away from Kolkata. Hastings has a capacity of over 150 MT and is a composite mill featuring divisions like batching, drawing, spinning, weaving, and finishing. 

Building on steady success and consistent growth, MREL expanded its capacity and presence manifold. In quick succession it added several units in Hooghly district.  India Jute Mill, Srerampore was acquired in 2007. It has a capacity in excess of 100 MT per day of jute products like hessian, sacking and value added Jute Diversified Products (JDPs). Subsequently, Gondalpara Jute Mill, Chandannagore, Hooghly was acquired in 2009, and it now has one of the best value added product manufacturing centres.

MREL’s reputation today is synonymous with jute! This phenomenon has been achieved by our galaxy of industry veterans who work round-the-clock dedicated to excellence in every facet of business deliverables.
